Check the following link if you want to see what Microsoft advise for there next version of windows Vista, due out around Jan 2007.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx
Below are the lowest specs Microsoft recommends, and as always the are the care minimum to run there new opertaing system.
Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
- A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
- 512 MB of system memory.
- A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable
Personally I feel the min spec needed is:
1 Gig Ram, at least a 2Ghz processor
and a 128meg or 256meg ram graphic card,
SATA hard disk 100 gig.
It will run on what Microsoft suggest, but will be VERY SLOW.
So, if you are buying a new machine, save extra and go for quite a powerful machine and not the cheap budget ones that are around a lot now.
Take care
