Whales back on the menu

I find the news that Japan is going to kill 50 humpback whales under the loophole of “science” to be very sad and disapointing.

The very thought of how these are hunted and killed is very barbaric and cruel and the pain and suffering these go through just not seem to be fit or right under any circumstances.

Totally agree with what the Australian minister  Ian Campbell said:-

“Scientific whaling is just commercial whaling under another guise. To be hunting 50 of these endangered species is an outrage.”

And from Leah Garcés, the director of campaigns for the World Society for the Protection of Animals

“They will be using the same weapons that inflict a horrific death on minke whales. I cannot imagine what it will be like for humpbacks.”

Even if the numbers were back to what they used to be, which they are not, I still do not see any reason in the word for this needless slaughter.

Live in peace and let those that live in the oceans have the same………

Model Jets

Another intrest of mine has always been flight. As learning to fly a real aircraft and also do the hours to keep the licence is something out of reach for most of us, then there is another option and that is radio controlled model aircraft.

Its been a very long time since I last flew one of these , but these days things have moved on so much. With the progress of technology and progress on the models and engines, its all becoming very intresting and I hope in the not too distant future I can get around to having a go at all this again.

Because of my intrest in speed and flight, I would dearly love to have a go at these model jets that have real turbine engines in them, the speed they fly at and the noise of a scaled down jet engine is awesome, check out the link to a video clip to see what the noise and speed is like on these stunning models.

Cost is also a issue with these model jets, last time I looked into these, you could be looking around 6 grand, so its not a cheap hobby by any means and then you have the running costs and maintance.

But flying one of these must be a experience and such a buzz 😉

Windows Vista Beta 2 for public use

If you want to test out and help find bugs etc, then go to the microsoft windows vista site and grab a copy of the forthcoming new operating system from microsoft 🙂

Bear in mind this is a beta and has bugs, but if you are intrested in taking part and helping find problems , then please do.

Its becoming a well worth upgrade and is much more secure.

So, if you have maybe a spare system and dont mind spending some time helping out and finding those bugs or things you think microsoft ought to change, then check it out!

Have fun boys & girls 🙂

Its okay to copy your music to your mp3 player for private use

UK music fans can copy own tracks

The BPI’s chairman wants iTunes to work with non-Apple MP3 players
UK music fans no longer face the threat of prosecution for copying their own CDs on to PCs or MP3 players, as long as the songs are only for personal use.
Peter Jamieson, chairman of the British Phonographic Industry, said consumers would only be penalised if they made duplicates of songs for other people.

Currently anyone transferring music to portable devices breaks copyright laws.

The music industry has traditionally turned a blind eye, however, in favour of targeting “professional” pirates.

“We believe that we now need to make a clear and public distinction between copying for your own use and copying for dissemination to third parties,” said Mr Jamieson, whose organisation represents the UK’s record labels.

He told the Commons select committee for culture.
