Fairwell to Michael Schumacher

Well its a fact now, Michael is retiring at the end of the 2006 season.

A stunning drive today, and there have been many over the years I have watched this sport.

But for me, he was one of the last bigger than life charactors left in he sport. Sadly in my view, thesedays with so much worry about safety and also drivers having to act like PR bill boards, a lot of the bright charactors have long since moved on or retired.

For so many sports now with these big budgets, its making the sport more dull, and Michael Schumacher was one of the last colorful drivers out there.

Full credit to him for not only the great victory today, but also in leaving at the top.

Motor Racing will be a far duller place next year for sure..

Good luck in clinching that 8th world champship before you go!

Airfix gone bust :-(

I have read in the Daily Mail, the sad news that Airfix has gone into recievership.

With the advent of the internet , playstations, xbox’s and satellite tv etc, it seems there are not enough out there buying there products to keep afloat.

Have many memories myself as I am sure many do, about growing up and buying one of these kits and spending hours putting them together, painting them and adding the decals etc.

I do think its a tad sad that , there is no intrest in putting together these at times highly fiddly pieces and the enjoyment of when they were all done and hanging from the ceilings or on the shelf.

I am sure also that a lot sat down with there parents and both got many hours or fun out of these, and also it was a time you spent with your dad or mum, doing something together.

Yes the world has moved on, but one does wonder how many now just go upstairs and plug in there playstations or dvd films, and are missing out with that bit of time that doing something like building a model used to bring.

This news is not just about a company making no profits going bust, but yet another sign that growing up glued to a screen or msn is what so many now do, and I feel personally that so many now miss out on the quality time we used to spend with real people.

Gosh I am getting old 😉

Take care all

Podcasts

One of the things that really seems to be gathering speed every day now is podcasting.

Since I recently bought a Apple IPod 60gig,

and as I have a very long drive to and from work each day, apart from listening to music to fill the time, I have found listeing to these podcasts to be a load of fun and intrest.

It seems someone someplace has a podcast about just about anything, and its very easy to add to your ipods.

I am also toying with the idea of doing one myself , so at some time in the future, look out for a podcast from here also 😉

I can see as well as what shall surely be in the years to come people mostly watching tv online, that also I am sure things like podcasts and video casts will also be very big in the years ahead.

Imagine, being able to get a podcast or videocast on something very local to you, real local news , events or places to go that have intrests similar to your own.

Apple and its ipod and itunes, is still the combo to beat and if you are in the market for a new mp3 player and want ease of use, so save the extra and go for one of the ipod range. 😉

Hottest July since 1914

“Hottest July in 92 Years
Any doubts that July was a real scorcher have been dispelled by the Met Office.

Figures show it was the hottest July – and the hottest month – since 1914.

The average night and day temperature in the UK in July was 17.8C (64.04F).

That compares with 17.3C (63.14F) set in July 1983 and August 1995.
It doesn’t get much better There has been speculation temperatures could be even higher in August.

But Met Office forecaster Nigel Bolton has ruled out the possibility.

He said: “We’ve probably had the highest temperature for the year.

“There is a warming trend for this weekend but we are not forecasting extreme temperatures.”

He said this week will be quite cool and showery, with temperatures around 23C (73.4F) and 24C (75.2F).”

Sky News.
